Plus Aptitudes can take Complications, so it only makes sense. Like DP mentioned, it's ultimately between you and your Judge to decide; if it helps sway him/her, it will explicitely state that Aptitudes may take Boosts, Complications, and Balanced Complications in the revised edition. I think Delayed Use is poorly worded and doesn't take into account a situation such as Spinbearing's. As I see it he would not be able to use the power (nor associated powers) during the first round as he "spins up". After that all powers may be used for attacks/defense/whatever until such time that the character stops spinning. Once again, check with your Judge, but it's not a stretch to justify how your character is built/works in game.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dustland)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 20:31:16 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1354,from=rss#post1354https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1354,from=rss#post1354Yes I saw the Area just for throwing mmmmm - will have to think the super speed thing but the idea was that he had to get up to speed before the power kicked in but it does seem a little restricting not being able to use the power to defend nondisclosed_email@example.com (jamat)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 18:49:30 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1353,from=rss#post1353https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1353,from=rss#post1353Technically, area affect is a 'power' boost. Your GM may not let you apply it to an aptitude. How do you use 'athleticism' as an area effect. When you dodge, does everyone around you dodge as well? Or is this just for throwing? Is the 'delayed use' for superspeed the time it takes you to get up to speed while spinning. If so, you might want to limit the other powers to your superspeed instead of just 'spinning'. Also, if you do this, you will not be able to use superspeed to defend (per the description of the limitation).nondisclosed_email@example.com (Darkpaladin67)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 17:57:28 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1352,from=rss#post1352https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1352,from=rss#post1352OK here's my revised character write up comments welcome Spinbearing Resistances: Composure 2D Fortitude 4D Reaction 3D Will 2D Aptitudes: Intrusion 3D Athleticism 3D (Affect Area 1D; Hyper-throwing Ball Bearings) Powers: Superspeed 4D (800mph - limit: 1 round delay use) [3D]   Wall Crawling 2D (limit only when spinning) [1D] Burrowing 2D (limit: only when spinning) [1D] Super Senses 2D (Direction sense, 360 degree vision limit: only when spinning) [1D] Scattered Ball bearings: Paralysis 3D (area affect +1D, Device: Ball Bearings -1D) [3D] Advantages: Dumb luck Disadvantages: Dependent Disreputable Resistances 7 + Aptitudes 6 + Powers 8 + Advantages 1 + Disadvantages (-2) = 20nondisclosed_email@example.com (jamat)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 17:09:06 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1348,from=rss#post1348https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1348,from=rss#post1348Thanks for all the help so far I will look over all your suggestions and post an updated character for further comment sometime this week Cheer Jnondisclosed_email@example.com (jamat)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 10:28:22 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1345,from=rss#post1345https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1345,from=rss#post1345Webs affect composure and reaction, whereas paralysis affect reaction only (although I believe it should affect Will as well). To me, stumbling in falling can be represented by loosing composure, thus the reason I went with web. As far as Athleticism vs Super Weapon, I would agree if not for the area affect boost that he desired. However, it would be a viable option if character points do become an issue. Like any character, there are many ways you can build it. It just have to decide what is best for you and how you envision the character.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Darkpaladin67)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 02:15:38 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1343,from=rss#post1343https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1343,from=rss#post1343Heya Jamat, sorry to get to the party late. I have a bad habit of not checking out posts in the Who's Who thread very often. I think DP has an excellent build already, so I'll just throw out a couple of ideas for tweaks: 1) Delayed Use: I could see Spinbearing taking this limitation, modeling him having to spend a round "revving up" before he begins spinning at a super speed. 2) Athleticism vs Super Weaponry: Since Athleticism covers throwing objects, you could go this route and have a bit more flexibility with the dice, i.e. Spinbearing could also run, jump, swim, etc at an impressive level. You described him as being athletic so it may make more sense. 3) Paralysis vs Webs: To me Paralysis makes more sense; Webs is actively restrains the target by wrapping them in something, while Paralysis uses some undefined trait (in this case ball bearings) to restrict a target's movement. Probably not that big of a deal, depending on how you interpret how Webs damage works. I hope that helps and sorry for missing your call for help earlier! I'd make a terrible superhero.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dustland)Sat, 09 Feb 2013 00:40:29 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1342,from=rss#post1342https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1342,from=rss#post1342Hi Darkpaladin I can see where you are coming from and will definitely use it as a limitation on his senses as I see them as super enhanced due to his spinning. I was thinking that if he were attacked by something like webbing and failed his roll he would be entangled and not be able to spin until he broke free thereby having to rely on his own strength to get out of it. Not having used the rules before I'm not sure if this is too weak an idea to be a limitation or if there was some way of expanding on it to cover more things.... possibly if he was successfully grabbed by telekinesis then he would stop spinning to.... nondisclosed_email@example.com (jamat)Wed, 06 Feb 2013 13:38:27 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1341,from=rss#post1341https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1341,from=rss#post1341I would check with you GM. If it were me, I would look at each power and think if there were situations where I would want to use the power when I wasn't spinning. A character could take a lot of limitations (only works on the planet Earth, doesn't work when chewing gum, etc.) But unless these situations occur in game, it would not be a limitation. For most of them, (Burrowing, Wall Crawling, Combat abilities) you will have the opportunity to start spinning before needing the power so it would not really be a limitation. The only one I see it being a factor with is super senses as you could be blindsided at a press conference, or when standing around; but then you are limiting your direction sense as well.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Darkpaladin67)Wed, 06 Feb 2013 10:33:19 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1340,from=rss#post1340https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1340,from=rss#post1340Hi there thanks for that it looks great. I was just wondering when I started to look at his powers I thought of adding the limitation " only when spinning" to them to indicate that his powers could be taken away from him if say he was trapped in a web attack or restrained in some way. Wasn't too sure if that would be just milking it for the sake of it but looking at the write up you did it would give me an extra 4D to play with. Not sure if this would be too mini / maxing the character What do you thinknondisclosed_email@example.com (jamat)Wed, 06 Feb 2013 06:24:49 +0000 Re: help with a character build PLEASEhttps://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1336,from=rss#post1336https://bzenithcomicspresents.runboard.com/p1336,from=rss#post1336Here is a rough take at it, we can adjust as you see fit. Below is a description of his powers followed by his background in case you want to have a read of it. Any help would be welcome as I have put some powers down on paper but they just don't feel right to me Cheers Jamat -------------------- Powers Jake is a mutant his powers allow him to spin at great speed for great distances. He is able to borrow into the earth and while spinning go up vertical surfaces and along ceilings. Due to the nature of his powers he has great direction sense and sees a full 360 degrees while spinnning.  A side effect of this power has been his endurance has increased and his skin has become extremely resilient to damage. Another mutant power he seems to possess is his accuracy with his ball bearings and can throw then singularly or in an area effect. He also uses them as a defence to slip people up by throwing them onthe ground. --------------------------------- SPINBEARING Jake Chambers was many things, he started life as an orphan left on the steps of an orphanage run by nuns, then he was a petty thief before breaking into the big time as a master of his thieving trade before becoming a guilt ridden hero. Jake grew up not wanted by anyone but the nuns, while at the orphanage he had no friends and none of the perspective families chose him for adoption. He became self sufficient early on in his life only showing concern for the nuns that had raised him. He was athletic had good grades and was bright but there was something about his confident manner that put people off him. He could usually be found in a dark corner of the playground throwing marbles into an old tin can with great accuracy. By the time he was 14 he had taught himself how to open every lock in the orphanage and spent many night sitting in the office reading the files on the other residents, for no other reason other than he could do it. One night he found a letter to the mother superior telling her the bank was foreclosing on the orphanage because of unpaid bills. Realising that he could loss his home and the people he loved Jake decided to get the money for the nuns. To Jake this was straight forward, he would steel it from the very people the orphanage owed it to. A couple of nights later Jake was quietly putting jewels and antiques in a bag while wondering round the home of the manager of the local HSBC bank. The following morning the nuns found a bag of money sitting on the alter with a note say that it was a donation from an ex resident who had heard of their plight and wanted to help. Jake realised at that moment he loved breaking into places and steeling things it gave him a great buzz. He was soon steeling things only to put them back a few days later if only to test his abilities. At the age of 16 he was classed as an adult and the orphanage gave up guardianship of him. Now out in the real world Jake quickly started to set himself up in a posh apartment with all the trappings his ill gotten gains could buy him. Each month he would still leave a bag on the orphanage alter to help the nuns keep the place running. Soon Jake set himself up in business doing jobs for other people. Although not a modern day robin hood by any means (the money he earned he kept) he did have some morals and would not take a job that involved someone or an organisation that could not afford to be robbed. One job lead him to break into a lab to find some data for a rival company. Unknown to him the lab belonged to an underworld organisation. There must have been a mole in his client's company because it all went to hell in a hand basket very quickly and Jake was soon pinned down in one of the lab vaults with no way out. Now for the first time in his life Jake was scared, he needed to get out and quick next thing he knew he was bent over throwing up in the grounds of the orphanage. How he got there he wasn't certain all he could remember was the blurred vision of buildings zipping past him. Not sure what had happened but glad he’d got away the following night he entered the offices of his client and found information about the mole. He left this evidence on the pillow of the man who had hired him and five days later read that a body had been washed up on a slip on the south bank of the Themes. Jake later found out it was the man who had shopped him. It wasn’t long before another incident happened, he was crossing the road not looking what was going on around him and walked straight into the path of an oncoming bus. Before he knew what had happened he was halfway across the city, this time feeling dizzy but not actually introducing the pavement to his big Mac. Realising something strange was happening he again thought of the orphanage and within seconds he was standing outside it in the yard. After a bit more experimenting he realised that he was spinning at great speed and with barely a thought could control his direction, acceleration and stop dead on the spot. Another amazing thing was he could see the world around him as if he was casually walking down the street. He quickly realised the potential for this new power could be put to in breaking and entering. He also decided that he needed to have some sort of protection with him in case he got into difficulty again. Hitting upon an idea he speed off one night to the countryside to test it out. Spying a tree in a field some distance away he started spinning really fast when he felt he was going at a sufficient speed he took out one of his marbles and left fly with it. Going over to the tree he found the marble had put a hole right through it’s trunk but had also shattered in the process. Not wanting to end up killing anyone Jake looked through his bag and found a ball bearing. With this in hand he repeated the experiment again it penetrated the trunk but this time stayed in tact. After repeating this a number of times Jake realised that depending on the speed he span dictated the damage he caused. He also found out that he could do devastating attacks with a number of ball bearings in a large area but was not very accurate with them where as with a single ball he could take a fly out in mid air with little effort. Soon after, with a costume to hide his identity Jake started hiring himself out and became very successful as a cat burglar, so much so that it wasn’t long before he was hired to help a group of supers break into a high tech facility to steel top secret defence plans. They had just got into the main building when Jake realised the people he was working for were there to steel a new form of explosive that they were going to sell to terrorists. They needed him to break open the safe and when he refused they took one of the two lab assistants and killed him in front of his eyes. Next they chose the female. Jake couldn’t stand by and see her die so let loose with a destructive volley of ball bearings which caused so much structural damage to the building it started to collapse. Quickly spinning to max speed he grabbed the girl and got out just as the roof came in. When the army turned up Jake was sitting near the rubble with the girl next to him. Realising that his arrogance had got him into this mess in the first place and resulted in a death and racked with guilt he throw himself on the mercy of the courts. The girl who he rescued stood up in court on his behalf and his sentence was lowered to 10 years. Over the last five years Emma (the girl he saved) has been a regular visitor to the prison and their friendship has grown into something stronger. Knowing that he can never undo what has been done he has decided to turn his powers to good if he is given the opportunity. nondisclosed_email@example.com (jamat)Mon, 04 Feb 2013 19:14:23 +0000
