Character Creation
Character Creation:
So, that should get you into the thick of things. Feel free to come up with any background you can think of: mutants, aliens, high tech, magic, scientific accident. It’s all possible. The only requirement is that yesterday, you were going along as a seemingly normal human, and today you realized that you have some kind of superpower. If you want to go the “normal” route, you’ll have to be somehow closely associated with one of the other “supers”. You don’t get the naked woman dream or have the aura (which you can’t see anyhow).
We can bounce some ideas back and forth if you need it.
Characters will be designed with 25 points. Try to keep maximum power level at 5d, and even then maybe one, possibly two of those.

Setting Info
Setting Info:
As I’ve described before, I’m looking at doing an X-men: First Class (the movie) meets Planetary. Obviously, the setting is the ‘60s, but in a highly stylized manner in the same way that the Batman cartoon series was “set” in the ‘40s.
You also all have to start off around Bay City, basically San Francisco with allowances for variations due to unfamiliarity (plus the fact that it just suffered a major earthquake about 30 years earlier than planned). I’m stealing a lot of the setting information from Champions: New Millenium, if anyone is interested.
The major theme I’m looking to explore is “Discovery vs. Hidden Secrets”. It’s pretty much exactly the same theme as explored in the Planetary series for those of you familiar with that. Secondary themes include “Chaos vs. Order”, “Extraordinary vs. Normalcy” and even “Freedom vs. Safety”. As much as you can, focus your character around one of those themes (and I totally stole this idea from another game called With Great Power).
The tone I'm most comfortable with currently is what can best be described as "Marvel Movie Style". Not a lot of flat out spandex, at least a slight nod to "realism", and rated in the PG to PG-13 range.
Hopefully, that is enough info to get everyone started. I’d like to have at least 3 players (very Planetary there) and promise to try and post at least once a day.

Re: PBP SUPERS!
Also, I figure we might as well do it on the boards here to hopefully give them and Zenith Comics a little pub and traffic. I'm used to using an online dice roller called Invisible Castle, so that's what I'll stick with unless someone has something better.
I'm considering this the recruitment and character creation thread, and I'll probably create an In Character [IC] thread and Out Of Character [OOC] thread once we get up and running. Please send anyone who may be interested in this direction

Re: PBP SUPERS!
A Question regarding character backgrounds/source of powers:
I understand how a most options could go from one day being "normal" and the next "super", but how do you see that working for an alien character?

Re: PBP SUPERS!
An alien character would have to somehow pass for human up until the "event." The best examples would be Superman or even Doctor Who. If their internal physiology is significantly different, they just wouldn't ever remember going to a doctor, or having to go to a doctor. It could also be explained through some sort of shape shifting ability if you really want to go for a very different alien look (and believe me, if we stick with this, you'll run across some of these

Re: PBP SUPERS!
Cool. Last question, does everyone in the world come upon their powers at the same time? Or is this a unique event to the players or a small group of people (ie are there are other, known, superheroes and villains prior to the "event"?)
I ask this because of the Enemy Disadvantage; if there were no other supervillains prior to the Event, then would our character's enemy have been Normal too (but an enemy nonetheless) who happens to power up at the same time as the character?
As of now I'm thinking I'll go with a shapechanger of some sort, probably someone who can turn into a predatory beast at will, but just discovered their ability.

Re: PBP SUPERS!
Awesome input! There are no publicly known superheroes or supervillains or anyone with superpowers before the planetary alignment (calling it the Event was starting to remind me of that cancelled television show). That doesn't mean that there haven't been plenty of rumors (along the lines of bigfoot or the loch ness monster). Your character may have a vague feeling that someone out there is hunting them down, but they probably won't have a real good idea with a name and face at the start.

Hoping to post ideas shortly -- just as soon as work stops punching me in the head. All-nighter... blah.

Re: PBP SUPERS!
Okay -- so some ideas for a character. I'm thinking something nice an basic, elemental if you will. Someone who has limited control over electricity, cold or heat. Would you have any issues with someone having Uncontrolled Energy or Elemental Control?
Also considering earth-based powers and my old favorite: the brick.

Re: PBP SUPERS!
Those all sound like mutants to me, which will completely fit into this campaign.
