Man of Steel

Watched the new Superman movie today. I really liked it, but I have always been a fan of Superman. Liked it much, much more than the last one.

As I watched it, I found myself assigning SUPERS! stats to his actions, thinking: that is how you attack with flight, or that is defending with superspeed. Lots of fun!

Hey DP!

I saw the movie this weekend. The special effects were impressive, but the movie fell kind of flat for me on all sorts of levels (dramatically, thematically, etc.). Although I too am a Superman fan, I might be of a different generation or sensibility. It works better for me if I think of it as an Elseworlds or What If? scenario(i.e. What if Superman were raised by a sociopath).

That being said, there were scenes I really liked. The oil rig scene is among them, and some of the shots of him flying were inspiring. Also, I thought Henry Cavill was very well cast. With a different script I could really dig him as Superman.

Mind you, I'm not saying it's a bad movie. Just that it didn't work for me.

All the best,

Dragonfly

I loved it myself. It's far from perfect, but then again, so was The Avengers. I think my favorite parts were how much devastation was caused when Superman fought Zod and his soldiers. I always felt the comics watered down how much damage can be done in a super powered fight, and I'm glad Superman (like Avengers and Chronicle before it) showed just how much damage a battle between super powered individuals can get.

Also, the so-called "out of character action" regarding the final confrontation: I thought it was very compelling, and I knew about it before seeing the film.

Also is it just me, or did Henry Cavill look a lot like Tom Welling more than once during the film. It was almost uncanning how much he resembled him in certain scenes. Never when he was in the suit though.

I have to say I enjoyed it more than IroN Man 3 (which I still liked, even with the big swerve), and I'm eagerly awaiting Man of Steel 2 now, since it will supposedly lead into Justice League

My favorite parts of the movie were with the the lady kryptonian and the army officer. It seemed like they had real chemistry. Part of me hopes that they both survived in the phanthom zone and will be back.

I also really like how she was portrayed in the fight scenes. Good use of superspeed, but no superacrobatics like most female super characters. Of course, I am a sucker for bad girls.
