Image comics featuring Liefeld characters

Has anyone read any of the new Image comics featuring old Liefeld characters (Youngblood, Supreme, Glory, etc). The last few series featuring many of them were pretty decent (since Alan Moore as writing them), so I was wondering if the writing was better than when Liefeld had them all as bloodthirsty punisher rip offs in the early days of Image.

Liefield is pretty much a one trick pony. His characters are always shoulder pad wearing pony tail sporting aliens (no human has figure proportions like that).

That being the case there seems to be a market for his stuff as he keeps making a come back. I liked youngblood for the first few issues but after that fell out of love with it.

Regards,
Walt

You obviously never read the Alan Moore stuff, which was pretty good. The early stuff that Liefeld wrote himself was utter trash. When he lets a real writer take over (and real artists draw), the characters actually become more than caricatures with no personality.

Liefeld was a dud when he relaunched Hawk and Dove at DC last year. Almost right after he was announced as the writer it was cancelled.

In their wisdom DC then gave him 3 other titles, one of them as penciller too.

He just left DC while burning his bridges.

which really has nothing to do with my question. Liefeld isn't writing any of the titles for Image; he just owns the characters. What he did or didn't do for DC is irrelevant to me, as I don't read DC.

We all know he sucks as a writer. When others write for his characters (like Moore did with Supreme, for instance), they actually become interesting.

Supreme was only interesting as it was Moore (who I am hit or miss on) exercising his desires for a Superman comic and Liefeld gave him that vehicle.

I was a BIG supporter of Image when it first came out, being so desperate for something other that Marvel or DC.

That, other than Pitt and Maxx, was a giant let down for me.

Liefeld also has a real problem creating characters that aren't obviously Low Rent Knock-Offs of Marvel or DC characters, which really makes them hard to write well in anyones hands.

The fact that it took a writer on the level of Alan Moore to make Supreme readable says a lot.

Didn't I see a Liefeld Character creator online where it was all pouches and having the word "Blood" in your name? emoticon

Some of the later Youngblood stuff (like Youngblood: Genesis, which was a reboot of the team's beginning) was well written, and wasn't by Alan Moore. Kurt Busiek plotted those, with Brandon Thomas writing it out. Better than what Moore did with the team, imho.

Again though, I am interested in the current series, not what came before. I see no need to turn this into yet another discussion on how bad Liefeld is. That's a waste of time, as we all pretty much agree on how bad his art/writing skills are

As Image comics is releasing them, you can find that info on the Image comics website here

Image is doing comics based on Avengelyne, Bloodstrike, Brigade, Glory, Prophet, Supreme & Youngblood.

They have one issue that Moore wrote of Supreme, but then Erik Larsen (Savage Dragon) is writing the new material for that series

I always thought Prophet was a cool enough character. Especially when Stephen Platt was doing the artwork. There were a couple of other Liefeld characters I likes, such as Dutch and Crypt but thats about it.

He may not be that great of an artist in comparison to most nowadays, but I would be happy at his skill level!
