Revised Supers! - Powers (not including Boosts/Comps)

Please discuss anything regarding super powers here, excepting Boosts or Complications.

Re: Revised Supers! - Powers (not including Boosts/Comps)

I have been holding off on posting regarding powers as it will be the longest one to go through. Starting from the beginning. Lets talk about astral projection.

The characters physical body is left behind. What happens if that body is attacked? No defenses? Automatic knockout? Is the astral form knocked out as well? Is the astral form invisible? Should we allow a power boost that allows it to affect incoporial? How long will it take the astral form to return to its body if the body is attacked?

Hmmmm... I will wait and see what others say on this. I have no solid thoughts.

Yeah, this is one of those powers that I have not used much. But these are questions that could come up. I have not given much thought into the answers yet and wanted to give others to have an input first.

I do have thoughts on some other powers as well, but I thought it best we go through the list in order.

Essentially the body has Reaction 0d at this point, correct? I would say if it were attacked, you could defend with Armor or Fortitude only and damage is applied automatically to Fortitude. I don't think a situational bonus for the attacker would be out of the question either.

If the character is reduced to Fort 0d, then I'd say yes, the Astral Form is knocked out and returns to the body. If the body takes damage but isn't knocked out I'd allow the "spirit" to return the following round on the player's turn unless there's some other circumstance that needs to be considered.

I'm inclined to say no unless the player purchases Invisibility as well. Otherwise they look like a ghostly image of themselves.

Sounds reasonable.

All those sound reasonable and are in line with what I was envisoning. However, perhaps these details should be mentioned in the power writeup for clarity.

Okay, next few powers on the list:

Armour: See the discussion on Armour peircing and toughness on the power boost thread.

Burrowing: It mentions that a die roll is needed for burrowing through harder materials. It would be nice to see the difficulties for the different materials. Sand, dirt, gravel, rock, concrete, adamantium, etc.

Density Control: Looks okay, the only comment I have is the the writeup states that for each die the user can double weight. That should be double or halves weight.

Any other comments on these three?

After all the years of Doctor Strange comics, I have to disagree here. His astral form was always non-visible unless he chose to allow it to be seen. Other characters that followed were the same way. Seems unfair to make them pay for invisible, when the source material has them invisible by default.

How do you know they didn't buy Invisibilty too, hmmm? Maybe with the the Complication: Only in Astral Form? emoticon

I really don't care ultimately, but I don't like buy one power, get the second power free, which this gets close to. I recognize the inherint limitations of the Astral Form, that's just how I think about it.

I think that I agree with Dustland on this one. Although traditionally the form is invisible, I feel it should be a separate power. Without the invis power, he could be a spectral image.
