Re: Revised Supers! - Power Boosts & Complications

Hi TGI,

Thank you for chiming in.

And sorry for the late answer, but the time difference prevents me to reply right away.

So, the more I think about it, the more I think Dustland and Darkpaladin are right regarding the 1d cost.

Indeed, this boost is fully effective is the attack is completely dodged (Aptitude Athletism or Reaction) or repeled (with a non-physical Power). As soon as the attack hits something or someone, it produces its effects and is over even if the target soaks it up completely (no die lost), with Fortitude for instance, or else blocked it with a shield.

If it's doesn't hit at all, it comes back the next round (at the attacker's initiative). But the attacker can shoot another homing attack in that second round.
The target(s) then has(ve) two attacks to avoid/repel/block, etc.
This is this only situation where this boost gets interested.

Anyway, I'm gonna use the Homing boost tomorrow (the NPC is a cyclop shooting laserbeams with his one-eye).

I'll let you know how it turned out.

Re: Revised Supers! - Power Boosts & Complications

Hi TGI,

Unfortunately, we had to stop the game just before the last fight with the big bad guys (as a cliffhanger).
So, I haven't been able to test Homing.
Next session is on 5th March.

However, I tried another boost "Signature" (1d). Linked to a specific weapon, it allows it to return to its wielder and prevents someone else to use it in a fight (meaning, the weapon could still be stolen, and be drained if it's a magic one, or hacked if it's a technological one).

And I tried the Advantage "Channeled" (1d). It has to be bought by two or more characters. The characters can pass on Competency Pool to each other. And maybe other things that I haven't yet given a thought to.

Finally, I have been able to test Homing.
It worked perfectly well.
The target dodged the first laser beam shot. So, the laser (which hasn't been intercepted) came back in the next panel at the shooter's initiative. Then, another player jumped to help the target and blocked the laser. The shooter shot a second laser beam at the samaritan who made himself insubstantial. Of course, this second lase beam came back in the next round.

I don't know, it seems to me AP does what it is supposed to do.

It is not supposed to do more damage, it is supposed to increase the likelihood that armor will be less effective against it. So it is not the average or even the higher totals for attack rolls that we should be looking at, it is the lower totals. The totals with AP on the low end are going to be higher than an equivalent die attack without AP because as has already been demonstrated the auto 6 on any AP dice makes your minimum roll go up significantly, even if effectively there are fewer dice.

It is true that the higher totals will be greater for the higher die non-AP attack, but shouldn't they? It's got more dice in it. The benefit of the AP attack is not that it causes more damage, it is that it will be more likely to cause 1D of damage than the non-AP attack against a armored target. It will because the average is almost the same and, more importantly, the low totals are on average going to be higher.
