The Dark Knight Returns So checking this out I can't help but feel that a lot of the magic that I felt from this story is lost on me now watching it in movie format.
Just seems like it didn't hold up very well as this was very much a product of its day.

I can see your points, but for me I always separate mediums, no movie will be the comic and vice versa, so I watch each for what it is. This worked as an animated version, held my attention and made me want to see part 2.

Re: The Dark Knight Returns I watched this with a friend, and, yeah, he was disappointed because it wasn't a "Sin City" style shot for shot re-make of the comic book. He wanted all the narration boxes in there, etc.
As for me, I took for a completely separate work, and enjoyed the heck out of it. Especially loved all the scenes with the new Robin. Makes me wish she was the new Rpbin in the comics and not Damian, continuity be damned!
