Supers! ...the Fantasy RPG?
Has anyone given any thought to using the Supers! engine as a basis for a Fantasy RPG? I know that BASH was used to create fantasy and sci-fi variants, so I started thinking that it might be just as possible to do so with Supers!
Just castin' the line out

Um... so yeah, it is in the works.

Re: Supers! ...the Fantasy RPG?
Hmmm.....maybe using the "Disads" system to bring in magic items and spells?
For example, a character could have the power of flight, but with the Disad of "Magic Spell", which would have whatever limitations get settled on for that (preparation, concentration, components, whatever).
Original races would be a big plus, for sure. Some new "bad guys" as well as a couple new "PC races."
And well....I'll think on it

Re: Supers! ...the Fantasy RPG?
I think the system is perfect for supers but fantasy will be a tougher fit.
If you are going with the fantasy idea you would need to make combat grittier. I would like to see a thematic magic system as well. (For example, most mage would have a specialization; fire, darkness, mind control, summoning etc.)
At least that is what I would be looking for in a fantasy system.

Re: Supers! ...the Fantasy RPG?
Theme Magic would be very cool. And are mages the only ones who can use it?

Re: Supers! ...the Fantasy RPG?
I've been an advocate of using the Supers! RPG as a fantasy game and have now ran four sessions with two groups doing just that.
I think that a Fantasy/Supers hybrid needs to be modular in nature. The group should have the option of keeping damage rules as is, but have an option for a grittier system (perhaps longer healing times).
I'd also have magic options too but nothing set in stone. Do you want to have a division in Divine/Arcane/Psionic powers? Or does the campaign only have one (or none) of the magics?
The most difficult hurdle that I've run into is the expectation of loot in a fantasy game. I limited magic items in the sessions (I think I handed out a total of 3 items in 4 games) and used a Wealth trait represented by dice that could be traded for magic items or used as bonnus dice in certain actions (ie bribing a city guard with a Presence roll with bonus Wealth dice).
It'd be cool if the fella who was awarded the rights to the conversion would join the conversation, but from what I understand he's busy with other projects until the end of the year.
