Space Flight, Warps, etc
So as I start to adapt ION Guard, I'm trying to come up with ways of dealing with characters moving about in space. Under the current rules, even with Flight/Super Speed, a character isn't going to move very far. Even Teleport needs 8D just to get you into space from the planet surface. Seems we might need some cosmic/space scaled boosts to make this work. While this likely should be under the revision sub-forum, I figured I'd post this here, since it's where I'm posting my ION Guard adaption.
Anyway, I figure a boost for flight would affect how a being flies in space. So in normal atmosphere, they fly as per the flight rules, but in space, the distance they can travel is measured for space (kind of like the way it's done in BASH). Just not sure what measurement to use. I also figure an FTL boost would also be necessary, to allow them to go faster than light.
Also, thinking some kind of Warp/Wormhole boost for Teleport, to cover Warp Gates and such (think Stargate or the gates in B5).
Anyone got suggestions?

Re: Space Flight, Warps, etc
A think a boost for flight would work. Call it Hyper-flight or Interplanetary flight or FTL Flight.
Perhaps it would not work within at atmosphere or within a gravity well. It allows 'instantaneous' (or at least - rapid) travel to other stars systems.
A similar boost could be made for teleport to represent travelling to other dimensions.
What about passengers. Could the character carry someone with them? Should there be a usable on others boost as well?

Re: Space Flight, Warps, etc
It's not very precise but I quite like just hand-waving the stuff that isn't confrontational. E.g. There was trouble on the Stark satellite in a cartoon episode so Iron Man put on his space armour and flew there. How long did it take? Irrelevant to the story. Sunturion on the satellite is faster in space than Iron Man; he has more dice in his flight power.
If Iron Man needed to get to Jupiter, his rocket ship / warp drive / solar sail is just one of his 'I brought this along' advantages.
Where you can go and how far and how fast has to be dependent on the story, not on the character build because it is a minor part of the story in the comics, it is scene setting. If something only takes up a panel or two in the comics (1% of the story), you don't want your character to have to allocate 50% of his dice to the ability.
If Iron Man can't get to Jupiter in time to save the Earth because he hasn't got 18D in flight, it is going to be a very short story. "Modok, fire the Negator Beam at Earth!","What about Iron Man, Masster?","He launched from Earth three weeks ago, Modok. He won't get here for at least another month and a half. I'm not waiting that long before we attack. I will just record my monologue and email it to him later. Bwaahahahah!!"

Re: Space Flight, Warps, etc
carldot34,
Since I'm adapting something that has rules for such things, hand waving isn't what I'm looking to do. If I was just going to hand wave it, I wouldn't have started this thread

Re: Space Flight, Warps, etc
Howdy urbwar,
An FTL boost is definitely included in RED (the revised edition). There are also a few notes on how to take the existing Area Effect rules and make them work for cosmic level battles.
I'm looking forward to any discussion on these issues that occurs as a consequence of the play-test!
All the best,
Dragonfly

Re: Space Flight, Warps, etc
Speaking of play test, any idea when we might be getting a look at RED for review?
